Action figures are considered the 'mainstay' for toy collectors, and not only for Star Wars. Those that I collect belong only to the 3 and 3/4 inch sizes, not others like 6 inch and 12 inch ones (because they're expensive). I collected several figures before Episode I (aka TPM) but I've since opened them up for display. After collecting almost the entire collection from TPM, I look to get the majority of figures from Episode II (AOTC).
The new Saga Line (Blue carded, as shown above) marks the arrival of AOTC . It has more of a 'vintage' look like what the original packaging of the Orignal Trilogy (OT) figures. This new line boasts figures which can re-enact action sequences from the movie, like flips, shooting projectiles and props.

This is the red-carded line which made its debut when Episode I: The Phantom Menace was released in 1999. It's also known as the Comm-Tech Chip Line as each figure comes with its own computer chip which can be played back for the sound clips from the movie.
